Outstanding examination achievements quietly earned by Ms Jin Loh’s students — ABRSM Distinctions, High Distinctions, Full Marks, and High Scorer recognition in ABRSM (UK) and Trinity College London music examinations.
Music examinations are not, in themselves, the purpose of Ms Jin Loh’s teaching — the deeper purpose is the steady cultivation of the student. Yet examinations do offer one quiet form of independent confirmation: an outside party, applying internationally calibrated standards, choosing to award a Distinction, a High Distinction, or in rare instances, Full Marks.
The pages that follow share six students whose examination records, gathered over the years under Ms Jin Loh’s tutelage, speak for themselves with quiet eloquence.

An examination record exceptionally rare to find in the world.
To score Distinctions across the singing grades up to Grade 8 is, in itself, an admirable record — one that capable students do quietly achieve from time to time. Yet to score Distinctions and simultaneously earn the recognition of High Scorer at every single one of those grades — meaning not merely a Distinction, but one of the highest marks in the entire country for that year — is a different matter altogether.
An academic parallel may help. A child who consistently scores an A and ranks First in class throughout kindergarten and the whole of secondary school is, by any measure, a very capable student — yet such a record, while admirable, does occur from time to time among bright, hardworking students. This would be roughly equivalent to scoring Distinctions across the singing grades up to Grade 8.
Now imagine the same child who, in addition to all of the above, also skips some grades along the way, and yet still consistently scores one of the highest marks in the entire country in every single examination, year after year, sustained across several years. That kind of record begins to belong in a different category altogether — and that, in essence, is Hway Yin’s musical record.
And one further consideration. Excelling under a single examination board can sometimes invite the question — is the board itself perhaps less demanding? The answer becomes unmistakable when the same level of achievement appears under a second, equally demanding international board. To draw an English-language parallel: a student who scores outstanding marks in Cambridge Assessment English might already be considered very capable — but when that same student also scores equally outstanding marks in IELTS, the standard belongs unmistakably to the student, not to any single test. (In music, ABRSM is roughly the parallel of Cambridge Assessment English, and Trinity College London is roughly the parallel of IELTS.) Hway Yin’s record carries this proof in both boards.

At ABRSM Grade 8 Standard — particularly within Musical Theatre — the Examiner’s priorities extend beyond vocal delivery alone.
In Alicia’s examination report, the examiner repeatedly emphasised:
- • character portrayal and storytelling across multiple repertoire selections,
- • noting immediate character communication,
- • vivid expression, clear text delivery,
- • vocal tones and technique in the high register,
- • dynamic colour, and convincing sequencing throughout the programme.
These are the strengths cultivated through a precise, intentional process — word by word, phrase by phrase, lesson by lesson.

Among Ms Jin Loh’s instrumental students, this cellist earned a Distinction at his ABRSM (UK) Cello examination with an impressive 144 out of 150 marks — a result that reflects classical-cello technique developed with quiet care, and a depth of musicianship cultivated over years of considered study.

The grade band is clear: Pass 100, Merit 120, Distinction 130 — and at 144, this result sits comfortably within the Distinction band, with technical and musical sections marked closely together. ABRSM examiners are not inclined to award such marks lightly; a result of this kind is the product of considered, sustained preparation.

Celine See officially thanked Ms Jin Loh in her WOMCO Iconic Magazine feature, mentioning that she has studied under Ms Jin Loh for approximately nine years, as documented in the 2025 magazine.
In 2026, Celine continued her studies with Ms Jin Loh — marking the tenth anniversary of her musical mentorship, faithfully sustained even as she carries the demands of her role as a Country Head in her company.
