A seat on an international jury panel is not something a musician applies for. It is extended.

Ms Jin Loh serves as an International Music Judge, adjudicating performances submitted to international music competitions from around the world. She assesses each entry against the same standards she brings to her own studio: technical command, musical understanding, and honesty of expression.

Her adjudication work sits on a foundation of formal training across classical, jazz, contemporary and Chinese music, teaching-level mastery of six instruments, certifications in Educational Psychology (UK) and Sound Therapy (UK) — both completed with full marks — and more than forty International Teacher Awards. It is a breadth that allows her to hear a performance as a technician, as a musician, and as someone who understands what is happening to the person playing.

On the Global Jury Panel of WOMCO

World Online Music Competitions Organization

Ms Jin Loh has been officially invited to serve as an International Music Judge on the global jury list of WOMCO — the World Online Music Competitions Organization. The invitation is a mark of recognition rather than an appointment sought.

The list places her among professors, conservatory graduates, doctorate holders, Grammy voting members and internationally awarded concert artists drawn from the United States, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Greece, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Canada and beyond — a level of professional standing that many career musicians never reach.

For each competition, the organising committee invites one or more judges from that list to score the entries. Every performance submitted is transmitted to its assigned adjudicators for evaluation, and the adjudicators assigned to different entrants may vary from round to round.

How She Adjudicates

Every entrant has given something up to be there. That deserves a careful ear.

  • Preparation over spectacle. A panel is not won by the loudest performance, nor the fastest. It is won by the one that is prepared, controlled and musically honest.
  • The intention behind the notes. Accuracy is the beginning of an assessment, not the end of it. What a performer understood about the music always shows.
  • The whole musician. Training across classical, jazz, contemporary and Chinese music, and in six instruments, means an entry is heard on its own terms rather than through a single tradition.
  • Consistency, whoever is playing. A name, a country and a backstory carry no weight in a score. The performance does.

What This Means for Her Students

A teacher who adjudicates international competitions teaches differently — because she has sat on the other side of the marking sheet.

  • She knows what a panel actually rewards. Her students are taught to that standard from the first lesson, not coached toward it in the final weeks.
  • She marks before the examiner does. Having assessed entries from around the world, she hears a student’s work the way an adjudicator will hear it — and says so plainly, while there is still time to change it.
  • She recognises the difference between nervous and unready. An adjudicator hears hundreds of performances. That experience separates a student who needs reassurance from one who needs another month of work, and each receives the right response.
  • She has current, first-hand standards. International expectations shift. Her adjudication keeps her measured against the global field, and her studio’s preparation moves with it.
  • Her students enter competitions understanding the room. They know how entries are received, what an adjudicator is listening for, and why a result reads the way it does — so a competition becomes a lesson rather than a lottery.

This is the same standard behind the studio’s record: ABRSM and Trinity Distinctions, full marks in music theory, and more than fifty Gold Prizes won by her students in international competitions. The adjudication work is not a decoration on a biography — it is part of how the teaching works.

She teaches the standard
because she helps set it.
