Cancellations must be communicated to Ms Jin Loh no less than twenty-four (24) hours in advance of the scheduled lesson time. A replacement lesson will be arranged for cancellations made within this notice window, and may be carried over to subsequent months as appropriate.

Cancellations made with less than twenty-four (24) hours’ notice will result in the lesson being forfeited; no replacement will be provided. Ms Jin Loh’s time has already been reserved exclusively for the student, and cannot be reassigned at short notice.

This twenty-four-hour cancellation policy is standard practice in music institutions worldwide; some studios require forty-eight (48) hours.

Genuine emergency situations — illness, hospitalisation, family bereavement — will be considered on a case-by-case basis at Ms Jin Loh’s discretion.

Ms Jin Loh’s lesson schedule is often arranged back-to-back. Despite her best efforts, ending each lesson precisely on the dot is not always possible — there are moments when she is so engaged in explaining a passage to a student that the closing minute quietly slips by.

As a result, your lesson may occasionally begin a few minutes after the scheduled time. If the delay is on Ms Jin Loh’s side, she will gently extend your lesson by the corresponding minutes, so that you receive your full lesson hour. This is the considered way Ms Jin Loh honours her students’ time.

If, however, the lateness is on the student’s side — for example, joining the Zoom meeting fifteen or thirty minutes late — Ms Jin Loh is regretfully unable to extend the lesson. To extend a lesson by thirty minutes for one student would mean making every subsequent student’s lesson begin thirty minutes late, which would be unfair to the students who arrived punctually.

In such cases, Ms Jin Loh will need to end the lesson at the originally scheduled time, as the next student will already be waiting. The student is kindly invited to make use of whatever time remains of the lesson hour.

This gentle distinction is offered with kindness on both sides — and is a quiet courtesy to fellow students whose lessons follow yours.

Students who anticipate being absent from lessons for an extended period (typically one to three months — for travel, examinations in another field, family commitments, etc.) are offered two options to retain their reserved lesson slot with Ms Jin Loh:

Continue paying 100% of the monthly lesson fee during your absence. Payment is due on or before the seventh (7th) day of each absent month, or alternatively, the total may be paid in advance before the holiday begins. By paying the full fee, your lesson slot is held until your return, and the lessons paid for during your absence are not lost — Ms Jin Loh will arrange replacement lessons once you resume.

Continue paying 50% of the monthly lesson fee during your absence. Your lesson slot is held until your return, but no replacement lessons are provided for the absent months. This 50% retention method is standard practice in international music institutions, including those in Australia.

Students wishing to take a longer break than three months are kindly asked to discuss arrangements with Ms Jin Loh in advance.

Unlike institutions such as Yamaha Music School and similar music schools — which observe mid-term and year-end holiday breaks while continuing to charge the full monthly fee — Ms Jin Loh’s lessons do not include mid-term or year-end holiday breaks. This provides her students with more lessons throughout the year for the same monthly fee.

A typical month consists of four weeks (four lessons). When a calendar month contains five weeks, Ms Jin Loh teaches the additional fifth lesson at no extra charge.

There are no replacement lessons for public holidays — Christmas, New Year’s Day, and other public holidays observed in Malaysia. Ms Jin Loh observes the public holidays of Malaysia.

The Studio is closed for one (1) week each year for the Chinese New Year period; no replacement lessons are provided for this annual closure, as this is balanced by the additional fifth lesson taught (without charge) during five-week months throughout the year.

Lesson fees are billed monthly, in advance, and are due on or before the seventh (7th) day of each month.

For new students, the full first-month lesson fee is required to be paid before the first lesson commences.

For record-keeping, students are kindly asked to send a bank receipt of the monthly lesson fee payment to Ms Jin Loh via WhatsApp, indicating clearly which month the payment relates to (for example, “March 2026 lesson fees”).

Payment is for the reservation of the student’s weekly time slot, not for individual lessons attended. The monthly fee remains constant regardless of the number of lessons taken in a given month. Students who cancel a lesson and are unable to attend a replacement within the same month are required to pay the full fee for the following month; replacement lessons may be carried forward to subsequent months.

Ms Jin Loh expects her students to settle their monthly lesson fee punctually. Many of her students kindly pay on the first day of each new month; from the seventh day onward, payment is considered late.

Because Ms Jin Loh does not require a one-month deposit upon enrolment, charges no Registration Fee, and asks no Facility Fee — only the monthly lesson fee — punctuality of payment is the one quiet courtesy she expects in return.

It is also a matter of how Ms Jin Loh prefers to spend her hours. She is, at heart, a teacher — her time is given to thinking carefully about how each student may be guided as best as possible. Pursuing payment is not the work of a music teacher, and she would much rather not have to remind students to pay. Reminding feels uncomfortable for both parties — her students value the lessons, and they understand this without needing to be asked.

If a student forgets once or twice over a long span of otherwise punctual payment, that is, of course, perfectly understandable — life sometimes intervenes. However, should late payment occur two or three times within a short period, or should the overall track record of payment become consistently unpunctual, Ms Jin Loh will quietly release the weekly lesson slot and offer it to another student whose values align more naturally with the studio.

Unlike most music schools — which typically require a registration fee (about USD $30), a one-month lesson fee deposit, and the first month’s fee in advance — Jin Loh Professional Music does not charge a registration fee, nor a lesson deposit.

New students are required only to pay their first month’s lesson fee before their first lesson. There is no deposit, no registration fee, no facility fee, and no semester binding.

Lessons are conducted on the basis of mutual respect between teacher and student (and, where applicable, the student’s parents or guardians). Students are expected to:

• Listen attentively to Ms Jin Loh’s instruction
• Engage respectfully and openly with feedback
• Communicate honestly regarding practice progress, difficulties, or scheduling matters
• Refrain from raised voices, interruption, or dismissive conduct toward the teacher

The Studio reserves the right to conclude lessons with any student or family who is found to be in persistent breach of these standards. In such instances, any remaining lesson fees will be refunded in full without delay.

As all lessons are conducted via Zoom Pro, students are responsible for ensuring the following on their own device:

• A stable internet connection
• A working webcam clearly framing the student and their instrument
• A working microphone of acceptable quality
• A quiet, well-lit space free from interruption
• Their instrument, music scores, pencil, and any other lesson materials prepared and at hand

Repeated significant technical difficulties on the student’s side may, at Ms Jin Loh’s discretion, count toward the lesson’s full duration.

Lesson recordings are not permitted under any circumstance. Audio recordings, video recordings, and screenshots of any portion of a lesson — whether during the lesson, after the lesson, for personal use, study, archive, or any other purpose — are strictly prohibited.

From time to time, Ms Jin Loh may kindly share with her students recorded teaching videos, demonstration clips, exercises, technique tutorials, or accompanying materials prepared by herself. Such recordings and materials are shared in good faith, intended exclusively for the student’s private personal study. They must not be forwarded, copied, distributed, uploaded to public platforms, posted on social media, shown to other people, or used for instructional purposes elsewhere — whether free of charge or otherwise.

All teaching materials, exercises, methodology, written notes, recorded videos, and pedagogical content shared by Ms Jin Loh remain the intellectual property of Ms Jin Loh and Jin Loh Professional Music, and are protected as such. This rule protects the integrity of Ms Jin Loh’s teaching methodology, the privacy of the student, the confidentiality of the lesson environment, and the rightful ownership of work that has taken many years to refine.

Should you find yourself unwell on the day of a scheduled lesson, kindly inform Ms Jin Loh as early as possible. The lesson will be gently postponed and a replacement lesson arranged at the earliest mutually convenient time, so that you may rest fully without concern.

In the equally rare event that Ms Jin Loh herself is unable to teach a scheduled lesson due to illness or unforeseen personal circumstance, the lesson will likewise be postponed and a replacement lesson arranged at the earliest mutually convenient time. Notice will be given as early as is reasonably possible.

In either case, no lesson is lost — only quietly rescheduled, with care for both teacher and student.

As all lessons are conducted online via Zoom Pro, students who relocate to another country during their time at the Studio are warmly welcomed to continue their lessons from their new home, provided a workable lesson time can be agreed upon across the relevant time zones.

Students are kindly asked to inform Ms Jin Loh of any relocation as far in advance as possible, so that the weekly lesson slot may be adjusted thoughtfully.

Should a student wish to discontinue lessons permanently, kindly inform Ms Jin Loh in writing (via WhatsApp or email). Any unused lesson fees already paid will be refunded in full without delay, and there is no penalty.

As a quiet courtesy, students are warmly encouraged to give at least one month’s advance notice before discontinuing, so that Ms Jin Loh may thoughtfully release the weekly lesson slot to another student on her waiting list. This gentle courtesy honours both the relationship and the student waiting at the door.

These Studio Rules may be amended from time to time as the needs of the Studio evolve. Material changes will be communicated to current students in writing, and a copy of the prevailing rules will be available on the website at any time.
