Visitors sometimes wonder: Ms Jin Loh holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours — why did she choose not to pursue a Master’s or Doctorate? The answer is not a limitation, but a deliberate philosophy. Rather than spend years deepening expertise in a single instrument, she chose to invest that same time learning six instruments across entirely different musical families — Cello, Flute, Piano, Singing, Electon, and Guzheng. Each opened a different window into the soul of music.

This was never about collecting qualifications — it was about genuine understanding. Consider the instruction every piano student receives: play cantabile — in a singing style. But how can one truly play cantabile without ever having learned to sing? Ms Jin Loh did not wish to imagine it. She studied singing properly under world-class vocal professors, so that when she plays cantabile, she does so through lived experience — not imitation. That is the difference, and it is everything.

The same thinking extends beyond music. Art, architecture, movement — all of these shape the music of every era. Baroque buildings were adorned with elaborate ornamental carvings and gilded scrollwork; Baroque music is woven through with trills, appoggiaturas, mordents — ornaments that speak the same decorative language. To truly understand the music, one must understand the age. The Baroque period (c. 1600–1750) was also the great age of court dance — much of its keyboard repertoire was written expressly to accompany movement: Minuets, Sarabandes, Gigues, Gavottes. This is music that was never meant to be heard in isolation; it was written to serve a dancer. Ms Jin Loh therefore undertook approximately six years of formal Ballet training as an adult — not merely to study rhythm, but to understand, from within a dancer’s body, what the music must give: where it needs to breathe, to lift, to release. Only by becoming a dancer herself could she truly know how to play for one.

Her studies have extended further still. Ms Jin Loh holds a UK-accredited diploma in Sound Healing, achieving 100% in all assessments — exploring the therapeutic and emotional properties of sound vibration and frequency. She also holds a UK-accredited diploma in Educational Psychology, again with 100% across all assessments, deepening her understanding of how students learn, grow, and flourish under guidance. Alongside these, she has studied 音乐养生 — traditional Chinese music-healing principles — under a university lecturer from China, expanding her knowledge into the Eastern traditions rooted in the Huangdi Neijing (黄帝内经). The Guzheng, an ancient Chinese plucked string instrument with over 2,500 years of history, holds particular significance for Ms Jin Loh: she plays and teaches it as an act of preservation, keeping alive a tradition that time threatens to forget.

Formally trained to professional levels in Classical Music, Contemporary Jazz, and Chinese Music — a breadth very few educators can claim — Ms Jin Loh is not simply a musician. She is an educator whose understanding of music has been shaped by dance, singing, art history, sound science, and the study of the human mind. She built this not within the walls of a postgraduate degree, but by stepping far beyond them.

She does not simply teach from what she learned years ago — she is constantly learning, constantly refining, and constantly elevating her craft by studying under some of the most accomplished music professors in the world.

Over the years, Ms Jin Loh has undertaken advanced studies with world-renowned vocal professors, specialists in vocal pedagogy, distinguished piano professors, cello professors, and Guzheng professors — many of them faculty members or graduates of internationally acclaimed conservatoires and universities. What she learns, she shares — passing on the knowledge, the standards, and the love of learning to her own students.

This is the true reason why Ms Jin Loh’s students are able to win Gold Prizes and First Prizes at international music competitions, and why she herself has been invited to serve as an International Music Judge — not because she holds a particular degree, but because she has never stopped learning, never stopped deepening her knowledge, and never stopped asking how she can become a better musician and a better teacher.
